Scarecrow Cuteness

I triple puffy heart LOVE the fall & the fun activities that we can do with it...
I recently added this one to my list of awesomeness!

To get started we did a quick brainstorming activity of Fall characteristics...
{please excuse my lame drawings}
The next step was to write about the Fall.
We are working on our non-fiction writing unit, so this played into it really well.
They wrote down fall facts.

After the writing came the fun part...
{I did NOT complete this all at the same time- this was done in 2 sessions}
We created the scarecrows.

Take a look at the cutenesss!!!

This display was up just in time for my parent/teacher conferences. They loved reading them while they were waiting...

This is the girl scarecrow...the hair is made from raffia. I didn't have a lot of it so the girls' hair is kinda sparse...still cute though! I love the eyelashes!

Here is the cutie boy scarecrow....I love these & the kids loved them too!

Do you want to know where to get this for your very own??
It comes from the awesome Amanda at
Mrs. Richardson's Class

Best of all~ it is only $2!!!!
Go grab one!
It is well worth the fun you will have making it with your class!!
Visit her cute blog & tell her I sent ya!

Magnet Fun!

What's more fun than learning about magnetism?
We had a blast with our magnet unit. In our district we get a science kit for each standard so we automatically have all of the lessons & supplies needed to teach the standards...nice, right?
It makes it easy peasy prep for me.
Anyhow~ we did all sorts of stuff with magnets, but our absolute FAVORITE was making them float on our pencils!

They had to figure out how to make them attract, repel, & float...they did a great job!

Then we got to the challenge experiment &, well, that was enough magnetism for this teacher! :)

The challenge experiment was to make the magnets pop off of the pencil...and then it got crazy! I had magnets flying all over the place, sticking to desk legs, scissor blades, etc... END. OF. LESSON!
 Haha!
First grade science is pretty fun though!!

Don't forget to enter the giveaway to win the $20 TpT gift card & all the packets...

Finally...Literacy Centers!!

So, last time I told you that I just started with literacy centers in my classroom.
I only have about 15-20 minutes for center time...really quick center time!
Here are some VERY simple centers that I have started with so that I can establish expectations & procedures.
FIRST CENTER: Here my students had to build ALL the word wall words with magnet letters first. After building, they ALL had to write the words under each one. They LOVED this one more than I thought they would! There's just something about writing on the teacher's big white board!

SECOND CENTER:  This is a simple writing center where they write the story to go along with the picture prompt.
(The kids was paying to to much. The boys stopped playing. The boys was looking at her because she made a goal.)

THIRD CENTER:  Anytime I can break out the magnifying glasses is a great time! This was a freebie from A Differentiated Kindergarten. The words are hidden on the bus & they are tiny

FOURTH CENTER:  My other group was on the computer listening to books on BookFlix or Tumble Books.

Right now I am only running 4 centers with 5 students in a center. As I teach more centers & the procedures for them, I will have more groups so that I can have fewer per group. I will add a guided reading group & a guided writing group to the mix.

I hope everyone has a SUPER weekend!! :)

Don't forget to leave me some comment LOVE!!

My week in math...

I don't know why, but I am loving math centers this year! I am totally getting adjusted to our pacing guide & the CCSS for 1st grade. We are working REALLY hard on problem solving strategies! Here are how my centers looked this week...

Here, students choose a blue equation card. They solve the equation using cubes & tens frames. Then, they record the equation & the answer in their math journals. My are really finding it tricky when the answer box comes first, so I had a lot of cards in this format just to get them more comfortable with it!

We had a really hard time using Think Addition. This is where you think of the subtraction problem as an addition problem. So instead of 8 take away 2, they would ask themselves, "if I have 2 how many more do I need to make 8"... This is super tricky, but they are getting it!!

And, a little geometry...we are working on triangles & their defining attributes. They had to create triangles on their geoboards & record the creations on the recording sheets. I made them draw them EXACT. They had to make sure that the drawn triangles were on the exact same pegs as the created triangles. It was tricky, as you can see from the pic!

You can get these triangle mats from Prekinders.com
Here they were creating a bigger shape by using the smaller shapes. They thought it would be a breeze to make the triangle 6 DIFFERENT ways...haha! I only had 7 kids that could make it 6 different ways. It was a great center that got those little brains fired up!

ANYWAY>>>>>>

I have JUST started literacy centers...it has taken me FOREVER to get used to my schedule & the fact my literacy center time is only about 15-20 minutes....makes it a little tough to get those puppies going! Hopefully, I will be able to post about them soon!

Happy Sunday!!
Have a GREAT week!!
