Do You Checklist?

I have always LOVED to teach writing &  I know that it is my strong suit. This year I have made it my mission to get my writers to be more accountable for their writing.
How do you do that??? was the big question that was driving me crazy.
I have always taught editing, revising, etc...but, my cuties never really put those skills to practice!

So...I made this little checklist & taught them how to use it.
(Obviously there are 2 checklists per sheet- they would only get 1 checklist...duh)

I did SEVERAL mini-lessons on EXACTLY what I expected them to do with the checklist.
When I modeled how to use the checklist I ALWAYS used one of their writing pieces.

~The Result~

I am SUPER happy with their writing this year! They are identifying their own mistakes, what they are good at, & what they need to work on. They are rereading & adding the things that are missing from their writing ALL.BY.THEMSELVES!!

Can you hear the angels singing!?!?

Do you use checklists with your students??

Let me know what you think!!

Just a Little Tid Bit for New Bloggers....

I know that it took me forever to figure out how everyone was adding their blog link to comments on blog posts. I had to get Nicole from Rowdy in Room 300 to send me the secret html code so that I could add my blog link & get people over here to follow me! So, I thought that I could help some of you out & give you the magic code so that you can add your blog to comments!
Soooo abra-cadabra....here is the secret...

How To Include a Link to Your Blog in a Comment:

1. Open a sticky note on your computer (if you go to your start menu you should find it there) and copy the following onto it.  This is your html code (aka- computer lingo).

<A HREF="http://www.WEBSITE URL/">TEXT TO DISPLAY</A>

2.  Now you have to customize it to make it work for your blog.  For the red part, type in the name of your blog.  You do not need the http:// part, you just need to type in your blog URL(www.jenskinderkids.blogspot.com).  Then for the green part, type in the name of your blog (Jen's Kinder Kids).
So, mine would look like this:

<A HREF="http://www.jenskinderkids.blogspot.com/">Jen's Kinder Kids</A>

3.  Like I said, I save this to a sticky note that is always open on my desktop. Then, when you comment on someone's blog, you will just copy & paste the html code at the end of your comment.Easy Peasy!! :)

I hope this was helpful!
 Have a great Tuesday!

Here's What We're Up To!

Can I get a woot, woot for a 4 day week!?!
I am super excited to start my 2 WEEK Spring Break on Friday!
But, before that can happen we have to get through the next few days...here is how we are getting through...
A little ABC order~ bunny style! (sorry for the icky glare)

How about a little word building fun in the magnet center?
Below is the recording sheet that they will complete after making all the words. They were stoked about getting to use the highlighters!

Do your kids love labeling? Mine LOOOOVVEEE labeling! I always have a labeling center for them because they are super engaged & QUIET here!

Getting those fine motor muscles worked out with these torn paper Easter eggs. So fun & simple to prepare!

This was a freebie on my blog yesterday & my kids rocked it today! We watched the Harry's Kindergarten counting by 5's video first.
Too cute~ we just had to make them into hats!

A fun little Easter reader...

Fun in science learning about plants!

Okay~ that's some of the fun that we are having!
I got some of these centers from Kreative in Kinder & Deedee Wills. I was too lazy to make my own, but you can't go wrong with these girls!!

Freebie for you!

Hi everyone!
I am having some family issues at home & haven't been posting or creating lately.
But, just to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you, I am giving you this little Easter freebie.
The 1st sheet is a cut & paste by 5's activity. There is enough for 2 students on 1 sheet.
The 2nd sheet is a sort, count, & order activity. I usually have them glue them down to construction paper after they have them ordered correctly.

Anywho, I hope to be back soon when the storms at home pass over. :(

Partners anyone??

I am soooo not a fan of Daylight Savings Time in the spring!!!
I love it in the fall...but spring, NO!!
I REEEEAAAAAllllllyyyyy miss that hour! BOO!

Ok, no more whining!

Do you let your kids work with partners EVERYDAY for writers workshop? I find that when I let them work with their partners everyday I get students that are not quite as productive. Is this a problem for anyone else or am I doing something wrong?!?

I have only been letting them work with their partners on Fridays. This seems to keep them engaged, productive, & more appreciative of the time that they have with their partners.
They are REALLY listening to each other & offering suggestions.

By doing partner work on Friday, everyone has at least one finished piece that they can share.
This cutie was telling the other one that her sentence didn't make sense & that she needed to go back & fix it...and she did!
They really love their partner time!

So, how do you do it?
Do you have any suggestions for me??

By the way...my TpT store is on sale until Tuesday!
Have a great Sunday friends!!
