What in the World?!?!?

Why are the students on the tables you ask!?!
Well we are making movies, of course! Duh!
To celebrate the end of our storytelling unit in Reader's Workshop we are making movies of The 3 Billy Goats Gruff.

I have 4 students at each table group...perfect for this story that is extremely familiar to them. After I explained to them that they were going to be making a movie of the story, they had to go back to their group & problem solve who would play each character.
After they all agreed to the parts they would play (this took quite a while for 2 of my groups) they made their character hats. You can't tell from the pictures, but each hat has their little character on it.

The next day rehearsals began. Then, we began filming their movies. Tomorrow we will celebrate the end of our unit by eating applesauce & watching our very own Emmy worthy blockbusters! :)

Apple Time Fun!!

Here are a few pics that I snapped around my class today during math & literacy center time...
Here is a new center that I created & was really unsure if they would be able to handle it this early in the year. They had to find the 3 matching cards and record their cards on the sheet. They wrote the number in the circle, put the same # of dots on the 10 frame, and then colored the fingers on the hand to match the number. This was one of my lower students, and he did a great job!
Who doesn't love making scarecrows out of pattern blocks??
They really loved this one today....they had to put the apples in number order first, and then they had to count & attach the correct number of links....soooo many objectives hit with this center!
My kids are great sorters, but really have a hard time explaining their sort. SO- I make a LOT of sorting stuff & we really work on the math talk of telling how we are sorting. This time this little guy was able to tell me that he sorted by size...Yay!
Can't do an apple unit without making torn paper apples! This puts those fine motor skills in overdrive! :)

Here are a few literacy center pics...
My kids love to make fold books. They have to read, write, & respond (color the apple the color that the words told them to). Then, we add these to reading bags & they read them over, & over, & over...
I printed this nifty little puzzle from Childcareland. There is some really great stuff on her site!
This is always a hit. They love to read this poem & put in their friend's name...then, they add the poem to their poetry notebooks so they can read it over, & over, & over...

Ok, that's it for now! I hope that everyone is having a great week!! I have 2 more days until FALL BREAK!! woo hoo!!

Here are some freebies for ya...just because you stuck with me until the end of this LOOOONNNGGG post! :)
Enjoy!!

Comments Please!! :) Let me know what you think!!

I Just LOVE the Fall!!

Hi Friends!

The weather here in NC is gorgeous!! I just LOVE the cooler temperatures & the feel of fall outside! Who doesn't?! To top it all off, I have a 4 day work week ahead of me followed by a 2 WEEK FALL BREAK!!

Woot, Woot!!

I just love working in a year round school!!
Don't be jealous...while you all were basking in the sun on your fabulous summer vacations I was at school...with 23 little people...working! It's a nice trade off. :)

Here's what I've been working on...

Click the Pics to view the units in my TpT store.

Now...read very carefully...these units are EXACTLY the same! Do not purchase both of them! I made the Halloween Unit & I had some folks saying that they do not focus on Halloween or the images that represent it (witches, ghosts, monsters, etc.) & so I created the EXACT same unit using fall/ harvest time images. Both units are adorable, if I do say so myself...Ha! :)

There are a whopping 10 literacy activities in this unit!! Holy Moly...I think that is the most that I have ever put in a unit!! Everything correlates directly to the CCSS & all activities are great for kinders! They are tried & tested....remember, I have been in school 6 weeks longer than most of you! ;)

Anyway...You can have one if you are the first to do the following in a comment:

1. Guess my favorite color.
2. Leave your email address.
3. Tell me which unit you would like for free.

Good Luck, Friends & Happy Fall Y'all!
(I can say that because I live in the south :0)

Apple Fun & A Winner!

Isn't the apple theme just the best? My kids are so excited to learn about apples this week. I had everyone bring in an apple from home so that we can do the super fun activities like sorting, painting, graphing, tasting, comparing, contrasting, & the list goes on. We top off our learning by making applesauce with them...Yum!!
Here is a little peek at my apple math centers this week
Who doesn't love a roll & color. In our case, it's going to be a roll & bingo dot activity.
Number Order- all of mine need lots of practice with this one!

You know I've gotta get them up & moving. This count the room activity will do the trick!

Here's a little apple sizing sequence activity (this one is not in my math unit). This one tripped them up a little...they really had to think about it!

I am also doing a cut & paste number order 1-10 activity, but the picture that I took has disappeared?!?!? I guess the ghosts of Halloween are playing tricks a little early this year...ha ha!

If you like what you see you can get your very own by clicking the picture below! Yay!
~Awesome Apple Math Unit~

Anyway...thank you ALL for the ideas for my pumpkin unit! I will do my best to get as many of them in there as possible!! :)

The random number generator picked comment #7!!!
That is AMY!!! Yay for you Amy!! I will be sending the Apple Literacy Unit to your email!! Be on the lookout for it!!

5 Senses & Other New Stuff!

Hi Everyone!

This week I am teaching about the 5 senses during my science time. Yesterday I made & posted this unit...

Today I started with sight and we learned this song

We labeled our eyes like this...

We even had time to read this...

We had so much fun with all the sight activities! We also did a little writing piece, but I forgot to take the picture...Oops!

All of the activities are included in my 5 Senses Unit. Just click the picture to grab it for yourself!

Here are some other new things that I created this weekend:
~Awesome Apple Math Unit~

Ok, so the picture is a little small, but this is an apple themed math unit. It has 6 easy & ready to go centers that you can use speedy quick! If you download the preview, there is a FREEBIE for you! :)

I love to teach about weather! Here is last year's post about my  weather unit...I always make a booklet with them, but the pages were a little hokey so I made this:

My Weather Booklet

Every year I teach a different type of weather for each day of the week & we make a little craft to go along with it. Then I take them all and compile a booklet for each student. These ALWAYS turn out waaaaayyyy cute & the kids have soooo much fun making & learning about each weather type! You can grab yours by clicking the picture!

Yesterday I gave away the 5 Senses Unit to Tamara from Life's A Beach in First Grade for correctly guessing my birthday (September 16th)! Yay for Tamara!!

***Today I will giveaway my 2 new units for the first person to guess how old I will be next Sunday!! ***
Go ahead...give it your best shot!!
Good Luck, friends!!!

Ok...that's it for now!
Will we ever not be exhausted after school?!?

The Bad Blogger is Back! :)

Long time, no blogging! :(
I am so sorry to be absent from my little blog. I hope that you didn't think that I have abandoned it! Better yet, I hope that you haven't abandoned me!!

I did manage to make a cute little 5 senses mini-unit since Scrappin' Doodles made the cute graphic set. Not to mention, I am teaching the 5 senses next week & those graphics came out just in the knick of time!! Don't you just love it when that happens?!?

Yippie!

This unit has an easy reader, writing pages, a song to introduce each of the senses, and a booklet that the students make as they are learning the senses! The booklet has labeling and cut & paste activities. It is perfect for kindergarten!
I am so excited to use this unit with my kinders this week! I PROMISE that I will post pics & updates this week! Here is a freebie from the unit just for YOU!
Just click the pic & download the preview to get it for your very own!

But, wait!!! There's more...the first person who can guess when my birthday is will get the unit for FREE!!! Here's a hint...I am a September girl!
Good Luck!!
